Inspiration for an English index to the Mennonitische Rundschau--a
German-language Mennonite newspaper that ran from 1878 to 2007--came
from the comments of many researchers frustrated in their attempts to
find specific articles and historical information in the thousands of
printed pages. The task is even more intimidating when relevant material may be tucked away in sections of correspondence, congregational and
local reports, or simply untitled news briefs. Only by reading the
articles and sifting them through a grid of internationally recognized
subject headings can the information be made accessible to researchers.
This is the first of six such indices published by the Centre for
Mennonite Brethren Studies in Winnipeg. (Note that this web version contains two volumes, both the subject index published in 1990 and the author index published in 1991.) In addition to the indexing
committee, special thanks goes to Bert Friesen for the compilation.
